H.E. Mr Masoud Mohamed Al-Ameri, President of the Court of Cassation and President of the Supreme Judiciary Council participated in the first conference of Asia-Pacific countries on environmental law, which was held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 11-12 December 2013, at the invitation of H.E. Tun Arifin bin Zakaria, President of the Supreme Federal Court in Malaysia. The conference is held in cooperation between Malaysia's Supreme Federal Court and the United Nations Environment Programme, aiming to launch constructive dialogue for supporting environmental law. The agenda of the conference focuses on the positive impact of law on development and the environment.
In parallel with the conference, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council met with H.E. Mr Tun Arifin bin Zakaria, President of Supreme Federal Court in Malaysia, to discuss cooperation between judicial authorities in the two countries, and ways of promoting the same through organising specialised judicial courses in both countries for judges and court assistants. His Excellency also met with H.E. Mr Bakri Kanti, Director of the Environmental Law and Agreements Unit for the United Nations Environment Programme. The meeting discussed the national judiciary role in enforcing environmental protection laws.
