The General Services Department has the following powers and duties:

  • Setting maintenance plans, programmes and arrangements for buildings, furniture and equipment.
  • Taking the required actions to conclude maintenance and cleaning contracts and monitoring their performance, in coordination with the relevant administrative units.
  • Managing communication services and the payment of their charges.
  • Supervising electricity, water, AC, lighting and other services necessary for proper and effective work.
  • Providing and supervising the necessary vehicles.
  • Setting security and safety plans and managing their implementation.
  • Providing the requirements, materials and facilities necessary for the work, in coordination with the relevant administrative units.
  • Supervising employees, workers and janitors and allocating them to different administrative units, according to work needs and requirements.
  • Identifying the procurement and services requirements, and set their specifications, in coordination with the relevant administrative units and including them into the draft annual budget.
  • Taking the required actions to allocate government accommodation and paying accommodation allowances to the Council staff, in coordination with the relevant units.
  • Undertaking all activities related to the visas and residence of non-Qatari staff.​
